On The Right Track with General Motors

Bright Automotive was founded in 2008 at the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), based on the work of a consortium of organizations, including Alcoa, Google.org, Johnson Controls and the Turner Foundation.
Since then, the company has developed the IDEA, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and has also launched Bright eSolutions, which offers consulting to automotive customers that want to accelerate their vehicle electrification, lightweighting, and overall platform efficiency efforts.
The IDEA operates in electric mode for 40 miles before switching to an estimated 36-mpg hybrid mode for 100-plus miles per gallon potential, based on daily driving behavior, according to the company. The company recently raised a $5 million equity investment from General Motors’ newly formed venture capital arm. See Bright Automotive for more details.
